Age Discrimination
Age discrimination is now against the law
It became illegal to discriminate, directly and indirectly on the grounds of age in employment and vocational training on 1st October 2006. The legislation also introduced a national default retirement age of 65, making compulsory retirement below 65 unlawful unless objectively justified. Upper age limits on unfair dismissal and redundancy have been removed.
Advice organisations need to prepare themselves for the legislation so that they are able to provide appropriate, and timely advice to clients under the provisions of the Age legislation.
Greater Manchester Pay and Employment Rights Advice Service, in conjunction with AdviceUK, will be running a series of training courses throughout Greater Manchester between January and March 2007. We are inviting expressions of interest from agencies who would like to attend and in which part of Greater Manchester. Please complete the contact us form with your details.
We will also be producing a factsheet which will be available on this site. Further details will be listed as they become available.
